A UK/India Conference for architects, construction professionals, urban designers, real estate developers, property & facility managers and more

Curbing greenhouse emissions is arguably the world’s key global governance challenge. It is imperative therefore to shift the focus on developing a low-carbon economy to honor India’s voluntary commitment to reduce carbon emissions intensity by 20-25% by 2020.

The real estate industry is a significant contributor to global warming due to extensive emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from the energy use in buildings. It is estimated to account for about 40% of the energy used. Increasing demand for housing and office space in developing countries like India is expected to further push up energy consumption within the building sector.

Therefore, successful urban development, taking into consideration the constraints of climate change, a low carbon future, and the transformations required at social and technological level, would entail cross-sectoral communication and participation at the city, state and central levels.

It is with this background and as part of the ‘RICS Climate Change Conference Series’, RICS, in partnership with Oxford Brookes University, UK and CASLE (Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy); is organizing an International Conference on ‘Moving towards low-carbon buildings in India’. The conference is supported by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.
