Can We Achieve a Sustainable Future? The Role of Green Chemistry

Sustainability at its core means survivability, and green chemistry hopes
to ensure that we’ll be happy, healthy, and here in the future. Green
chemistry is the design of products and processes that reduce or eliminate
the use or generation of hazardous substances. It applies across the life
cycle, including the design, manufacture, and use of a chemical product.
Dr. Bob Peoples, director of the ACS Green Chemistry Institute, leads a
lively dialog about green chemistry’s role in weaning us off petroleum and
tackling the challenges of global sustainability.
