Dear Sir, Dear Madam,
we are pleased to invite you to the next session of the Green Building Workshop Series, jointly organized by econet china, German Energy Center and College and BBS. The lecture on Thursday 21st April will be about “Sustainable Building and Lifecycle Management”.
The main challenge in designing green buildings is the issue of cost. The higher up front investment linked to sustainability is putting off both investors and developers. Therefore, it is key to understand the potential savings over the life span of buildings in order to evaluate the real costs of sustainability.
Life-cycle analysis has been around since years in Germany and benchmarking of the life-cycle costs in the real estate sector is already mature to provide an understanding for developers and investors. Applying a life-cycle analysis enables one to reach the balance between costs, environmental protection and social benefits while meeting the function of the facility or infrastructure. The workshop will discuss about how to decrease consumption of resource of energy, water and raw materials and restraint environmental degradation caused by facilities and infrastructure throughout their life cycle.
The workshop will start with an introduction to life cycle analysis as well as the sustainability quick checks of the Working Committee of German Industries Building Departments. Thereafter, two examples (one office and one production building) will show the practical impact.
Participants will also have the opportunity to assess their own project with regard to their sustainability potential. For these projects to be assessed, the participants are asked to provide a short description of the buildings’ size, function, structure, construction as well as primary energy and water consumption, and waste production. For participants, who introduce a project, the *xls- tool will be offered.
The workshop will be held in English, however parts of the presentation material will be bilingual.
